Community Career Centre Helping People Find Work
Since opening its doors in September, 1996, the Revelstoke Community Career Centre has proved very successful in helping local residents find employment.
For the last five years the Community Career Centre has helped an average of 350 people per year to find jobs. In addition, there are another 200 students who get assistance to find employment each summer.

While the Centre provides internet access to help job seekers, and lists employment opportunities in larger centres such as Calgary, Vancouver, Kelowna and Kamloops, the major focus is on helping local people find jobs with local employers.

In addition to listing employment opportunities on a local “job board”, staff at the Career Centre make good use of existing government programs.

These government programs include the Targeted Wage Subsidy program, sponsored by Human Resources Development Canada, and the BC Works! program, sponsored by the provincial government, to assist clients to land a job.

Clients do not only receive information about available employment opportunities. Individual assistance is also provided to clients to help them prepare effective resumes, to practice interview skills, and to develop a number of other skills to facilitate their job search.

Career and employment counseling services are also available, and the Centre also houses an employment resource library.
